Professional Therapy

Professional Speech Therapy
The Centre aims to provide professional one-on-one speech therapy for children with speech delay from low-income families and to facilitate their communication and social skills. Speech therapists work out the treatment plans in partnership with parents, the parents are encouraged to join the training sessions to learn the skills and techniques so that they can carry out the speech practices at home. This will facilitate the progress of a child’s speech development tremendously. In the fiscal year, the Centre conducted 5,700 sessions of individual speech therapy.
Occupational Therapy
In view of the needs of occupational therapy from our children, the Centre started to provide a more diversified service to the children with the introduction of one-on-one occupational therapy in November 2018, with Motor Skills Developmental Training, Sensory Integration Therapy and Visual-Perceptual Training etc. The children had remarkable improvement with the occupational therapy training, in complementing to speech therapy.
In the first stage the Centre arranged occupational therapy to children under ‘Training Subsidy for Children who were on the Waiting List of Subvented Pre-school Rehabilitation Services’ from the Social Welfare Department, and provided the training to other centre cases in the second stage. Parents reflected that with speech therapy and occupational therapy together, the children had remarkable improvement and appreciated the additional diversified service provided by the Centre. In the fiscal year, the Centre provided 429 sessions of one-on-one occupational therapy to the children.

Dyslexia Training
Recent data from the Education Bureau indicates a significant upward trend in the number of students assessed with dyslexia, highlighting a growing demand for learning support. Many children served by the Centre also face varying degrees of literacy difficulties. Without early intervention and counselling, their academic performance, emotional well-being, and social development could be adversely affected. In view of this, the Centre launched the “One-on-One Dyslexia Training Programme” in May 2020. Professional tutors design targeted teaching strategies based on each child’s individual needs to strengthen their reading comprehension and writing skills. Feedback from parents has been positive, noting that their children have not only improved their learning capabilities but also gained significant confidence and shown greater initiative in engaging with literacy-related activities. The center conducted 485 dyslexia training sessions in the fiscal year.

Cognitive Training
Observing that many students require strengthened support in language expression, social interaction, and emotional regulation, the Centre decided to expand its scope of service to provide a more comprehensive training environment. In September 2023, the Centre officially launched the “Cognitive Therapy Course”. Through “one-on-one” structured activities, professional tutors guide students in mastering conversational skills, emotion recognition, collaborative play, and situational problem-solving. This initiative aims to comprehensively foster cognitive development while enhancing communication capabilities and social adaptability. In the fiscal year, the Centre provided 440 sessions of one-on-one cognitive therapy to the children.
